Academic writing - meeting 5

Just to repeat your instructions for this Sunday's class. Dr Dobrogoszcz will give you back your essays. I have underlined the mistakes and written the number of corrections I expect you to make at the end of the work with your mark. The error may be grammatical, spelling or something else - you have to guess! Remember you are supposed to help each other. Keep your corrections and bring them along with the original essays to the following meeting.

Unfortunately a number of people failed and will have to completely re-write their essays. In some cases this was due to poor writing - in others it was due to cheating. Cheats are by nature lazy as well as foolish people. They take the first site that google produces and copy their work from there. As the brighter amongst you will have noticed while reading this blog, I have a computer and can use the internet too.

If you have the word 'copied' all over your work don't bother to protest your innocence - I have read the sites your sentences came from. Of course, this being Poland, I can't have you thrown out out of the school and publicly disgraced but be aware that I shall do everything I can to ensure that you fail my course. A full, honest and sincere apology to me and the rest of the group is your only hope for partial mitigation.

Naturally, this means I shan't be giving titles in advance in future. It also means I'll be looking very closely at any work you do at home. Let me apologise in advance to the more honest amongst you if I show unwarranted suspicion about good work in the future.

See you in two weeks!
